BCWS 2019 Volcano Complex
Hmmm ... what to say about the Volcano Complex deployment. I would characterize it as a challenging deployment with innate and nuanced difficulties. As challenging and difficult as it was, I felt we all pulled together as a team and supported each other as best we could. One of the many positive aspects about this deployment was the surrounding beautiful and rugged landscape. Like many of you, I've travelled all over our amazing province with this gig; and, as a geographer, I truly cherish the observable differences in place and space across our province: I never take that privilege for granted. I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn a trade, build a craft, work hard, travel, learn from you, have a million laughs, and share in your struggles and successes. I'm grateful for the opportunity; moreover, I'm grateful we get to share these amazing experiences together as a team. Enjoy the photos!
BCWS 2019 Big Bar Landslide
The Big Bar Landslide occurred on the Fraser River near Clinton, BC, impeding salmon migration up one of the world's greatest salmon rivers. A Unified Command Incident Command was established to plan, supply, administer, and operationalize the effort required to facilitate 'human-assisted' salmon migration above the slide area. Multi agency staff from three political jurisdictions worked tirelessly and collaboratively to implement varied methods of fish capture and transport. Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Fraser River Aboriginal Fisheries Secretariat, and the BC Wildfire Service each submitted an Incident Commander to manage specific aspects of the operation. The following are the positions requested to be filled by our IMT: IC, Finance Chief (and trainee), LSC I (and trainee), PLUL, Air Ops BD, Equipment BD, and Safety. This deployment was very interesting. I'm certain everyone that came out has a story or two from this deployment. I'm grateful for the opportunity. Enjoy the photos!
BCWS IMT #4: Deployment to Manning, Alberta
Our first deployment this year was an 'out of province' gig in Manning, Alberta. We took control of the 'out of control' PCX-001 complex on June 03; we turned the 'being held' incident over to an Alberta IMT on June 17. Great job everyone!
